1st Place winner of the Gamee Game jam. It is a social mobile game focused on minimal interaction and contextual depth.
Crossed Fire was made to be easy to undersand at a glance, meaning that if a friend shared a gif with you, you would know immediately how to play.
This design methodology was inspired by Zach Gage and his 2018 GDC talk.
Instead of complicating the controls, I chose to design obstacles that challenged differents aspects of the player's one mechanic. The laser limits vertical movement; Rockets force players out of the walls; The saw blade tests the player's timing when crossing sides; The bullets force measured jumps.
These mechanics are designed to work in toghether and avoid impossible or unfair scenarios.
